Former Prime Minister of Jamaica, Hon. Edward Seaga to participate in Independence events – South Florida and Atlanta

FT. LAUDERDALE – Former Prime Minister of Jamaica, Hon. Edward Seaga will be the guest speaker at the Premier Dinner Dance, commemorating Jamaica’s anniversary of Independence to be held on Independence Day, Friday (Aug. 6) at the Fort Lauderdale Hilton Hotel in Dania.

Hosted by members of Jamaica United Relief Association (JURA), a South Florida non-profit community association, the event will begin at 7 p.m. with a Cultural Extravaganza and Reception.

On Thursday (Aug. 5), Mr. Seaga will be guest of the Broward County South Regional Library in Pembroke Pines where he will launch his autobiography “Edward Seaga: My Life and Leadership, Volume One: Clash of Ideologies 1930-1980.” Mr. Seaga who served as Jamaica’s fifth Prime Minister from 1980 through 1989 will also do readings from his memoirs and will be available for signings.

Since his retirement in January 2005, after more than 40 years service to Jamaica’s House Parliament, Mr. Seaga has pursued research as a Distinguished Fellow at the University of the West Indies, Mona, and Pro-Chancellor of the University of Technology. Proceeds from book sales will benefit the children and women and victims of violent crimes in Jamaica.

A schedule of cultural performances at both events will include the Tivoli Gardens Dancers, the Jamaica Rising Dancers, singer, Candi and Sierra Norwood Calvary Baptist Church Cultural Dancers.

On Saturday (Aug. 7), Mr. Seaga will continue on to Atlanta where he will also be the guest speaker at the Jamaica Independence Ball and Scholarship Awards Gala, to be held at the Renaissance Waverly Hotel, Cobb Galeria. The event is being hosted by the Atlanta Jamaica Association (AJA).
