Florida’s Voter Registration closing for the Primary Election

FT. LAUDERDALE – Monday, July 28, 2008 is the last day to register to vote for the August 26, 2008 Primary Election. Pursuant to Florida Statutes 97.055, the Voter Registration books must be closed on the 29th day before each election.

All persons who are 18 years of age, a citizen of the United States, a legal resident of the State of Florida and a legal resident of Broward and Miami-Dade may register and vote.

Registered voters may also make address changes, name changes, or party affiliation changes by filling out another Voter Registration Application.

Broward County

Voter Registration forms are available on-line, at Libraries, Driver License Offices, State Public Assistance Offices, Disability Offices, Armed Services Recruitment Offices, the Supervisor of Elections Main Office or any one of the four branch offices and many Municipal City Halls.

Address changes may be made by telephone by calling the office at (954)357-7050.

Voters are also reminded that Florida is a closed primary state. On August 26th, voters will be issued a ballot specific to their party affiliation. Party changes must be made prior to the book closing date. In the November 4th General Election, voters may vote for the candidate of their choice regardless of their party affiliation.

Miami-Dade

Residents may register to vote at a number of locations including:

• Miami-Dade County Public libraries;
• Team Metro Offices;
• Most city, town and village halls;
• State public assistance agencies;
• Florida Driver License Bureaus; and
• Two Miami-Dade Elections Department Offices

• Call 3-1-1 for a Voter Registration Application.
• Visit www.miamidade.gov/elections to print a Voter Registration Application.
