ATLANTA – Congratulations to all the readers who signed up to join the weight loss challenge to lose 25 pounds by the end of May. Together we will continue to cultivate healthy habits as we remind ourselves that without excellent health, we may not be able to enjoy financial freedom. Keep focused as we continue our commitment to be “healthy, wealthy and wise this year. Stacy McConkey M.D. lead physician for the Issa Trust Foundation has provide her 5 4 3 2 1 rules.

Tips

5. Eat five servings of fruits or vegetables daily
4. Drink four servings of water daily, instead of sugary drinks
3. Get three servings of low fat dairy daily
2. No more than two hours of screen time daily (TV, video games, computers)
1. Encourage your family to get one hour of physical activity daily

Meaningful Collaboration

Diane Pollard, vice president of Issa Trust Foundation, plans and implements medical programs in Jamaica. Some medical doctors including Dr McConkey take a group to assist children in Jamaica at least four times annually. Both Pollard and McConkey are maintaining their weight and believe that obesity is a growing problem all over the world including Jamaica.

McConkey, who is a Pediatrician from the University of Iowa Hospital, blames the obesity problems on our lifestyle. According to McConkey “As technology invades our world, including Jamaica, we tend to spend more time sitting and little time in activities.” She added that it is important to cultivate healthy habits as this prevents the health problems, for example: Diabetes and high blood pressure.

According to McConkey, overweight problems as adults frequently star during childhood. Consequently, healthy eating habits and daily exercise should include the entire family.

Personal Progress

Continue to join me as I make an effort to lose 25 pounds by the end of May. Progress was slow this month and my total weight loss is seventeen pounds. I still have eight pound to lose in four weeks. I must increase exercise, since over the past four weeks it has been most difficult while taking two courses and difficult final exams. Sitting for long hours as Dr. McConkey shared is really the culprit. Look out for some e-mails as we share our progress with Flair’s weight loss group. Let us continue to support each other as we remember The What What What Approach – What you do with what you have determines what you become™ We have each other and as we lose these extra pounds, we will share the most effective methods.
