Father Reginald Jean-Mary of Notre Dame D’Haiti receives proclamation

LITTLE HAITI – Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Alvarez and Commissioner Dorrin D. Rolle present a proclamation to Father Reginald Jean-Mary of Notre Dame D’Haiti Catholic Church at the church’s 25th anniversary celebration, on June 25, 2006, in Little Haiti.

Notre Dame D’Haiti Catholic Church was originally a small mission that began at St. Mary’s Cathedral, where the Haitian community used to celebrate mass and received the sacraments and social services.

In the 1980s, when Haitian refugees began to migrate to the United States and Miami in particular, the mission expanded in terms of worshippers and needs. The late Emeritus Archbishop of Miami, Edward McArthy, moved the mission from St. Mary’s Cathedral to what was Notre Dame Academy for Girls in 1981. Since then, the mission has carried the name of Notre Dame D’Haiti Catholic Church.
