Deadline nears if you plan to vote in November elections

MIAMI – With the November 4th General Election less than two months away, the Miami-Dade Elections Department wants to remind all first-time voters that in order to vote, they must be registered.

The deadline to register for the General Election is October 6th. Those not registered by the deadline will not be eligible to vote in the General Election, containing the presidential race.

Voters who are already registered do not need to re-register, although the Department encourages voters to update their address, party affiliation, and signature, should that be necessary. Voters can check their registration status on the Department’s website listed below.

In order for new residents and first-time voters to be eligible, they must:

• be 18 years or older (pre-registration begins at 16 if obtaining a driver’s license);

• be a U.S. citizen;
• be a permanent resident of Miami-Dade County.

There is no specific time requirement to live in Miami-Dade County to be considered a permanent resident.

“If you’re an 18 year old citizen who lives in Miami-Dade, you should be a registered voter, period,” said Lester Sola, Miami-Dade Supervisor of Elections. “We are ready to accept all voters, so I urge everyone to take advantage, and get out and vote.”

• Team Metro Offices;
• Most city, town and village halls;
• State public assistance agencies;
• Florida Driver License Bureaus; and
• Two Miami-Dade Elections Department Offices (2700 NW 87 Ave or 111 NW 1st Street)

• Call 3-1-1 for a Voter Registration Application.

Voter registration applications must contain an original signature and should be sent to the address on the form.
