Cutz for a Cause: One Vote Counts a Special NAACP Voter Registration Drive

MIAMI – Cutz For A Cause: One Vote Counts, a special NAACP voter registration drive, will be held on Saturday, October 4 at T.O. Cutz Barbershop, the elegant salon co-owned by Terrell Owens of the Dallas Cowboys.

The event will take place from 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. in T.O. Cutz Barbershops, located at 250 NE 25th Street Unit 103 in Miami and 8850 Miramar Parkway Unit 6 (Miramar Parkway and Douglas Road /37th Avenue) in Miramar.

“On behalf of the Miami-Dade NAACP, I would like to thank T.O. Cutz for welcoming this important voter registration event to the barbershop,” said Bradford Brown, chair of the Miami-Dade NAACP political action committee and past president. “It’s extremely significant for people to get out and vote. Everyone needs to realize that voting is a matter of impacting the well-being of people throughout their life. Unfortunately we have a lower rate of registration and a lower rate of turn out to vote in the African American community.”

The Cutz For A Cause: One Vote Counts voter registration drive will give the Miami community the opportunity to get more information about voting rights and the significant impact that voting has had on Florida’s African Americans. “Many of the recent national elections have positioned Florida as a very important state because the elections have been very close,” explained Brown. “The difference between the winner and the loser is often much smaller than the number of African American voters who are eligible but have not registered to vote as well as folks that are registered, but stayed home and didn’t turn out to vote.”

The Cutz For A Cause: One Vote Counts voter registration drive is open to the public. People are invited to bring friends and family to register to vote.

“T.O. Cutz is a community barbershop and we want to help make positive changes in our community,” said Terrell Owens. “The power of the vote has made an important impact in helping African American communities. That’s why it’s important for T.O. Cutz to be a part of the NAACP’s voter registration drive—especially during this historic election. ”

T.O. Cutz Barbershops are upscale barbershops that provide a full range of grooming services for men, women and children. Under the direction of Owens and co-owner Peter Bethel, acclaimed hair stylist – T.O. Cutz has conducted local fundraisers and events that have had a positive impact on the Miami community.

Bethel, who was born in the Bahamas, recently received his American citizenship. He will be registering to vote this Saturday for the first time. Bethel’s list of clients includes celebrities, professional athletes and political figures, including Alonzo Mourning, Shaquille O’Neal, Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter, Sean “P. Diddy” Combs and Dwayne Wade.

The Cutz For A Cause: One Vote Counts is an important project to Bethel. “Don’t let your right to vote fall by the wayside,” said Bethel. “Shed some hair instead.”

“Caribbean-Americans are expected to make a huge impact on the turn-out of newly registered voters in Florida and beyond. Peter is one of thousands of voices of new U.S. citizens of Caribbean descent who are engaging and re-engaging with the political process,” stated Marlon A. Hill, attorney and organizer with the SocaTheVote.com voter awareness campaign.
