Courtleigh Hotel Group In Jamaica Wants Guests to ‘Pack For A Purpose’

Courtleigh Hotel Group Encourages Guests to ‘Pack For A Purpose’ When Visiting Jamaica This Fall/Winter

KINGSTON, Jamaica – As part of its ongoing commitment to giving back to the Jamaican community, The Courtleigh Hotel Group is encouraging guests to donate various supplies to benefit notable local charities when visiting Jamaica over the coming months.

The effort is being coordinated in conjunction with Pack For A Purpose, a U.S.-based nonprofit organization aimed at positively impacting communities around the world by assisting travelers who want to take meaningful contributions to the destinations they visit.

  • Alpha Boys’ Institute

Founded in 1880, the Alpha Boys’ Institute has been administered since 1890 by the Religious Sisters of Mercy, a Catholic order of nuns. The school offers vocational training in agriculture, music, tailoring, wood working, and screen printing, though it’s best-known for producing such notable Jamaican music stars as Yellowman, The Skatallites, Leroy “Horsemouth” Wallace, and many more.

  • Missionaries of the Poor

Led by Father Richard Ho Lung and a group of Brothers, Missionaries of the Poor was started in 1981 in Jamaica. They began their work in a government-run house for the homeless, the destitute, and the aged, achieving success in opening the consciousness of the public to the needs and struggles of the poor. They continued their outreach by also working with prisoners, helping bring to light the need for rehabilitation over isolation.

  • Open Arms Development Center

A non-governmental organization that seeks to play an integral role in the eradication of homelessness, Open Arms cares for the homeless in a loving atmosphere. Established in November 2006, the group operates a day center for both male and female homeless adults offering baths, haircuts, and basic instruction in farming, hair dressing, and office skills.

  • The Marie Atkins Shelter

Providing solace for more than 100 men and women each night, Marie Atkins Shelter provides temporary overnight housing to those who cannot afford to pay their rent, drug addicts, deportees, and victims of natural disasters.

“The fall period extending into December and the Holiday Season are traditionally times of goodwill, sharing, and gift-giving,” said Nicola Madden-Greig, Group Director of Marketing & Sales for The Courtleigh Hotel Group. “We’re hoping that our guests will join with us in the spirit of giving to benefit some very worthwhile charities in our local community so that together we can help to continue building a better Jamaica.”

All three Courtleigh Hotel Group properties – The Courtleigh Hotel & Suites, The Knutsford Court Hotel, and The Jamaica Pegasus Hotel – are participating in the Pack For A Purpose program.
