Washington, DC – Following President Obama’s address to the country announcing executive action on immigration, Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson (FL-24) released the following statement:

“I applaud President Obama for his courage and dedication in addressing immigration reform. The President’s commonsense executive action will protect millions of undocumented immigrants, improve our broken immigration system, and help grow our economy,” said Congresswoman Wilson.

“As President Obama said, this action is necessary because for too long Congress has failed to act. He also has a simple message for Members of Congress who question his authority or wisdom in taking this executive action: Congress should pass a bill.

“I hope President Obama’s executive action will motivate House Republicans to finally allow a vote on comprehensive immigration reform, which has already passed the Senate with broad bipartisan support. With so many pressing issues facing our nation, we cannot afford a Republican backlash that causes even more gridlock in Washington, D.C.”
