Community Fundraiser to benefit school in Jamaica

FT. LAUDERDALE – South Florida’s Mystik 1400 Radio, The National Weekly, Jamaica National, and VP Records are teaming up on Saturday, February 9, to host a fundraiser to benefit the Inverness Primary and Infant School in St. Anne’s Jamaica.

The fundraiser will be held at Abby’s Restaurant, 7529 W. Oakland Park Blvd in Lauderhill starting at 5pm with a “live” broadcast with Mystik 1400’s Program Director, Ron Burke and NBC 6 anchor/ reporter Sharon Lawson.

“The school is in dire need of our assistance. They never fully recovered from the 1994 Hurricane that hit Jamaica and devastated the school’s building and resources”, says Ron Burke.

International Reggae artists including Cocoa Tea, Ritchie Stephens, Tarrus Riley, Ken Boothe, Nadine Sutherland, Ebony, Mikal Rustle, Annette Brissette, and others will be in attendance to lend their support for this worthy cause. Additionally, 12 year old Zachary Barnes, who introduced the public to the schools problems will be there to meet and greet attendees.

The goal is to build a much needed library from donations collected during the Mystik Love and Togetherness fundraiser held in 2007 and the fundraiser scheduled for February 9.

“We must build this library for our children in Jamaica so that they can be prepared with the necessary tools to compete in today society” said Ron Burke.
