Commonwealth Caribbean Electoral Officers Get Democracy Training in Jamaica

KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Electoral Commission of Jamaica (ECJ) recently hosted a workshop at the Kingston, Pegasus Hotel from Sept. 22-26  to explore ways in which electoral democracy can be strengthened within the Commonwealth Caribbean and Americas region. The workshop conducted by the Commonwealth Secretariat.

This was a major training event following the October 2013 pan-Commonwealth pilot workshop in New Delhi, India, and the March 2014 Pacific region workshop in Canberra, Australia. Two further regional workshops are planned before June 2015, for the Asia and Africa regions.

Commonwealth election management bodies participating in the event to strengthen the process of electoral democracy in the region came from: Antigua and Barbuda; The Bahamas; Belize; Canada; Dominica; Grenada; Guyana; Jamaica; Saint Lucia; St Kitts and Nevis and Trinidad and Tobago.
