Commissioner Yvette Colbourne selected as Miramar Vice Mayor

MIRAMAR – The Miramar City Commission unanimously approved Commissioner Yvette Colbourne to be the new City of Miramar Vice-Mayor for 2014-2015.  The position was previously held by Commissioner Alexandra P. Davis.

Vice Mayor Colbourne’s duties shall expand that in the event of the absence or disability of the Mayor, she will sign city legislation, chair commission meetings, and undertake all other duties of the Mayor provided by law.

Vice Mayor Colbourne was elected to Commission Seat 2 on March 12, 2013.  Soon after being elected, Commissioner Colbourne was selected by her Commission colleagues to serve on the Broward County Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) Board.  Her colleagues also selected her as an alternate to represent Miramar on the Broward League of Cities.

Vice Mayor Colbourne stated that “I am both humbled and honored to have been selected by the Commission as Vice Mayor.”

Prior to being elected, Commissioner Colbourne served her neighborhood community as President of her homeowners association; Vice Chair of the City of Miramar Economic Development Board; member of the Civil Service Advisory Board; and member on the Broward County Diversity Committee.

Commissioner Colbourne and her husband have lived in the City of Miramar for over 20 years where they raised their two children.  Commissioner Colbourne, a Jamaican descendant, was born in Panama and raised in New York before moving to Florida.
