Commissioner Jean Monestime Hosts Community Forum Reflecting on the 2010 Haiti Earthquake

MIAMI-DADE – Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jean Monestime, District 2, will commemorate the third anniversary of the 2010 Haiti earthquake by hosting a community forum on how Haiti has rebounded from the catastrophic event and the ongoing efforts to rebuild critical infrastructure in the country.

“A Community Discussion Reflecting on the January 12, 2010 Haiti Earthquake,” will take place on Friday, January 11, 2013 at MOCA Museum, 770 N.E. 125th Street in North Miami. The event will begin at 6 p.m. The forum will feature the Consul General of Haiti Francois Guillaume along with Jocelin David, a prominent engineer. Noted journalist Ed Lozama will serve as the moderator.

“The effects of the devastating 2010 earthquake are still being felt by families in Haiti and across the Haitian diaspora,” said Commissioner Monestime. “This third anniversary is an appropriate time to reflect on how far Haiti has progressed since the earthquake and assess the current challenges that remain.”

“After the earthquake, Miami-Dade County came together to assist Haiti in its recovery. This is the perfect opportunity to let the community know how our collective efforts have helped the people of Haiti,” Commissioner Monestime said.
