Comfort Suites Bahamas Leads Conservation Efforts

BAHAMAS – A Bahamian hotelier believes investing in environmental protection and management is integral to conserving the Caribbean’s fragile habitat.

Arthurita Butler, General Manager of the Comfort Suites Paradise Island, is passionate about the sustainability of her native Bahamas, and throughout the past two decades has been a leader in ensuring the all-suite hotel operates with minimal impact on the natural environment.

“Sustainability and environmental responsibility are no longer options,” said Butler who was part of the front desk team which opened the Paradise Island property two decades ago.

“It makes sense not only for our own sustainability as Bahamians, but it also makes good business sense,” she noted, revealing her company had made her “environmentally aware.”

The eco-friendly property, whose guests enjoy access to the adjacent Atlantis Paradise Island resort, has introduced green initiatives such as solar-powered heating, sensor and energy-efficient lighting, water conservation, including recycling rain water for laundry, among many other initiatives.

“These measures have improved our competitive position in the market and allowed us to maintain jobs during challenging economic times,” asserted Butler.

The hotelier, who admits to having a “green thumb” and spending her free time in the garden, insists the tourism sector ought to take a leadership role protecting biodiversity and conservation for future generations, especially in the “Family Islands” of the Bahamas.

Bill Clegg, regional vice president, Brand Performance and Programs for Choice Hotels International, saluted Butler on her 20 year-anniversary with the hotel, and for championing environmental issues in the Bahamas.

“Arthurita Butler is a shining star and her visionary approach to environmental management has inspired many, including the numerous visitors we host at the property,” Clegg declared.

In addition to knowing they are staying in the environmentally conscious property, Comfort Suites Paradise Island guests also enjoy access to the adjacent Atlantis Paradise Island. Comfort Suites guests can enjoy full use of all its facilities, including swimming pools, a beautiful beach, magnificent waterscapes, Lazy River Ride, water slides, health spa, tennis, and Kids Camp. Guests also have full signing privileges at Atlantis’ restaurants and lounges.

In addition to a healthy continental breakfast, the hotel features an outdoor pool, where guests can relax with a swim, take a nap on the sundeck, or enjoy a drink amidst a luxuriant tropical setting at the poolside bar.

Superior accommodations are offered, including a separate living area with a sofa sleeper in each room. All suites feature refrigerators, safes, hair dryers, cable television, irons and ironing boards. Children 15 years and under stay free in parent’s room.
