City Of Miami Gardens seeks applicants for its Performance Poetry competition

MIAMI GARDENS – The City of Miami Gardens will be opening up registration for the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Performance Poetry Contest. The theme is “Peace Making Moves In My Neighborhood” based on any two (2) of six (6) principles of nonviolence used by MLK. This contest is open to all adults, age 18 and over, who reside in South Florida.

The competition will be held on January 5, 2008 from 1-4pm at North Dade Regional Library 2455 NW 183rd Street in Miami Gardens. The winner will perform at the MLK Celebration on January 21, 2007. There will also be visa card awards and trophies awarded for 1st ($200), 2nd ($150) and 3rd ($100) place winners. All participants will receive a certificate of participation from the City of Miami Gardens.

Applications may be downloaded from the City of Miami Gardens’ website, www.miamigardens-fl.gov, or picked up at City Hall located at 1515 N.W. 167th Street, Suite 200. Interested competitors must register by November 15, 2007.
