City of Lauderhill’s July 4th celebration includes a T20 Cricket Tournament

LAUDERDHILL – With tax cuts severely restricting the City of Lauderhill’s 2008 budget, several programs and events typically funded by the City like the Annual July 4th Celebration are now being funded by donations and sponsors.

The Cricket Council U.S.A. has been planning its Inaugural Freedom T-20 Cricket Tournament on the 4th of July at the Central Broward Regional Park located at 3700 N.W. 11th Place in Lauderhill, as one of many tournaments throughout the year.

With the help of Cricket Council U.S.A., Dynamic Effects and Fireworks, EDSA, Sam’s Club, Coke, Konover, National Weekly, and D. Stephenson Construction Company, the Annual 4th of July Fireworks display will take place after all.

The Freedom T-20 Cricket Tournament will incorporate four “limited overs” cricket matches starting at 9 AM, followed by the final 20 over Championship match starting at 6:30 PM, in the Multi Purpose Stadium at the CBRP. The Teams include the Sharks, the Bears, the Giants, and the Lions, which are comprised of local recreation players from along the eastern coast of the U.S.

The matches being played are fast, fun, and intended to teach new spectators the game of cricket with ease. Commentators will be on hand for the final match and brochures explaining how the game is played will be available to those interested in learning.

DJ Jabbow will be spinning American classics of the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, and the 00’s starting at 5 pm, and the Fireworks by Dynamic Effects and Fireworks will light up the sky of Lauderhill at 9 PM.

The Freedom T-20 Cricket Tournament/Annual 4th of July Celebration will take place in the Multi Purpose Stadium and is FREE and OPEN to the entire public (however Broward County’s park entrance fee is $1.50 per person). The CBRP has several amenities to include water theme park, basketball, tennis, and netball courts, playgrounds, practice fields, and pavilions. Regular park rental rules and policies will apply. Food and drinks will be on sale for purchase.

“It gives me such pride to know that private sponsors have joined together to keep the traditions of our 4th of July Celebration alive here in Lauderhill. I hope everyone in Lauderhill and the surrounding communities will come out to the CBRP and enjoy its fantastic amenities while celebrating America’s Birthday with neighbors, family, and friends,” explains Lauderhill Commissioner Dale V.C. Holness.

“The Cricket Council U.S.A. will continue to bring cricket of all levels, youth to professional, to the CBRP in order to develop the sport of cricket here in the U.S. The Freedom T-20 Cricket Match allows local U.S. players to use the turf wicket on the field and gain an experience unlike any other in North America,” states Mahammad Qureshi , CEO & Chairman of the CCUSA.
