Celebrate Trinidad and Tobago & Jamaica at Miami-Dade Public Library’s The Art Of Storytelling

MIAMI – The Miami-Dade Public Library System is kicking off the 10th anniversary celebration of the Art of Storytelling (AOS) with community-wide storytelling slams, improv theatre for teens and mini-festivals for the entire family.

All events are free and open to the public.

Mini- Festival – Celebrating Trinidad and Tobago & Jamaica

Celebrate the history and culture of Trinidad & Tobago and Jamaica at this festival featuring storytelling, music and arts & craft. Be transported to the islands by renowned storyteller Baba Lyons, and the music of the Steel Away drum ensemble. Make your own mask for a carnival parade and enjoy a limbo demonstration.

Mini-Festival – Celebrating France and Canada

Explore the history and culture of France and Canada with stories and dance. Meet Madeline; enjoy face painting, dream catcher and Fabergé crafts, puppet shows, games, and the famous Momentum Dance Company in a presentation of Little Red Riding Hood.

Teens, 12-19, are invited to showcase their creative talents and learn new writing and speaking skills in SPIN! An exciting new component of AOS.

Game On! Teen Video Gaming Competition
Super Smash Bros Brawl tournaments for teens, 12-19, are being held at various branches throughout the community. Winners of each qualifying round will compete in the Teen Video Competition, at the International Festival on Saturday, May 1, at the Main Library, 101 W Flagler St. Visit www.mdpls.org for dates and locations.

Story Slams- Real Stories in Real Time
