PEMBROKE PINES – Take a cultural break with the kids and celebrate Caribbean-American Heritage month at the Anancy Festival”, scheduled for Saturday June 26th at 1pm at the South Broward Regional Library/ Broward College located at 7300 Pines Boulevard, Pembroke Pine, Florida
A Celebration of Caribbean Cultural Heritage
The Anancy Festival is a celebration of Caribbean cultural heritage designed with particular appeal to children and teenagers curious about the Caribbean. Anancy (or Anansi) is the West African trickster hero of numerous folk tales that are popular across the Caribbean, indeed popular throughout the African Diaspora.
This clever and conniving character is familiar to millions of people around the world and an appropriate icon for the festival’s blend of Caribbean culture on a platform geared for children and adolescents.
The festival is the brainchild of Xavier Murphy, owner and webmaster of jamaicans.com. His co-organizer is Dr. Andrea Shaw, assistant director and assistant professor in the Division of Humanities at Nova Southeastern University and a writer and scholar of African Diaspora studies.
The event is co-sponsored by Jamaicans.com and the South Broward Regional Library.

– Musical Performers: The Jamaica Folk Revue and Jamaican Pianist Beryl Johnson
– Storytellers: Geoffrey Philp, author of Grandpa’s Anancy Stories, Dawn Price author of Run to Freedom and Father Easton Lee author of Heritage Call: Ballad of Children of the Dragon.
