Caricom Heads of Government meet in Haiti February 18-19

Greater Georgetown, Guyana – Haiti will host the Intersessional Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) February 18-19, 2013.

The arrangements for the meeting were agreed to at the Thirty-First Meeting of the Caribbean Community Council of Ministers when they met in Georgetown on Monday, January 14, 2013.

It will be the first time that Haiti will be host of a Meeting of the Conference. Haiti assumed Chair of the Community, also for the first time, on January 1, 2013.

The Council comprising Ministers responsible for CARICOM Affairs, the second highest decision-making organ of the Community also discussed the reform process within the Community. That discussion benefitted from a presentation by the Hon. Winston Dookeran, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Trinidad and Tobago, on a new thrust for the integration process.

Plans to celebrate the fortieth anniversary of CARICOM were also put on the table during the meeting as well as preparations for CARIFESTA XI which will be held in Suriname August 16-25, 2013.
