CARICOM CHAIRMAN PRAISES WEST INDIES TEAM ON WORLD T20 VICTORY

Greater Georgetown, Guyana – Chairman of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Dr the Honourable Kenny D Anthony, Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, has showered congratulations on the West Indies cricket team following their victory in the International Cricket Council World T20 Championship held in Sri Lanka.

The CARICOM Chairman said the victory ensured that 2012 would be a memorable one for sport in the Region, following on the golden performances of our Olympic and Paralympic athletes in London earlier this year.

Following is the text of the message:

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) is exultant at the victory of the West Indies Cricket Team in the International Cricket Council World T20 Championship held in Sri Lanka.

Our team played with passion and pride and in so doing convincingly won the title by trouncing the world’s top teams including the hosts in the final. Captain Darren Sammy and his men demonstrated what a force a united Caribbean could be as all played a part in ensuring that the trophy would come to the Caribbean. The team’s management must also be commended for the hard work that they put in to get this result.

This victory, forged on a crucible of commitment, clear focus and strong self-belief, has ensured that 2012 will be a memorable one for sport in the Region, following on the golden performances of our Olympic and Paralympic athletes in London earlier this year.
