CARICOM Chairman Extends Condolences To Montserrat On The Passing Of Former Chief Minister

GRENADA – The Honourable Tillman Thomas, Prime Minister of Grenada and Chairman of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has extended deepest condolences to the family and the people of Montserrat on the passing of Dr. John Osborne, former Chief Minister.

In a message of condolence to the Office of the Chief Minister, Montserrat, Mr. Thomas hailed Dr. Osborne as a “quintessential politician, statesman and Caribbean integrationist.”

Dr. Osborne’s “distinguished service” to Montserrat and the Region, the Chairman said, earned him the respect of his native Montserrat and of the Caribbean as a whole.

“Even as his passing is mourned, his life is celebrated and remembered as synonymous with tenacity, passion, integrity and vision,” Mr. Thomas stated.

The full text of his message reads:

On behalf of the Caribbean Community, I wish to extend deepest condolences to the family of the deceased, Dr. John Osborne, as well as to the people of Montserrat, as they mourn the passing of a quintessential politician, statesman and Caribbean integrationist.

Dr. Osborne’s distinguished service to the land of his birth and the Region, earned him the respect of his native Montserrat and of the Caribbean as a whole. A meaningful tribute to his leadership capacity was the people’s trust in his ability by electing him on two occasions to the post of Chief Minister – first in 1978 and again in 2001.

Even as his passing is mourned, his life is celebrated and remembered as synonymous with tenacity, passion, integrity and vision. The Community pays deepest respects to this Caribbean Man.
