Caribbean Region must move past mediocrity in order to progress

St. John’s, Antigua – For the Caribbean region to move to excellence we have to move past mediocrity, an action business coach and former chief executive at telecommunications company Cable & Wireless Ian Blanchard has advised.

In a presentation at the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO)’s 8th Caribbean Tourism Human Resources Conference at Jolly Beach Resort in Antigua and Barbuda, Blanchard described mediocrity as the evil twin of excellence.

“If our Caribbean region is to tap into the potential there is globally we need to move past mediocrity [and] to move past mediocrity we have to take personal responsibility,” he told the over 140 conference participants from 13 countries during his presentation on From Good to Great: Driving Leadership & Organizational Excellence. The conference has as its theme, Making Excellence a Habit: Service, Loyalty and Profitability in Caribbean Tourism.

“Excellence is me saying, ‘I need to become a better version of me’. If we want things to change we have to care.”
