Caribbean Disaster Emergency Response Agency and FirstCaribbean International Bank announce disaster management scholarship

Bridgetown, Barbados – The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Response Agency, in collaboration with FirstCaribbean International Bank is offering a scholarship to a CARICOM citizen for a course of study, research or training in Disaster Management for 2006.

The Scholarship will be given in the form of an educational grant of up to US$5,000.00 per year for a maximum of three years.

Eligibility

Applicants must be between the ages of eighteen (18) and thirty five (35) years and registered in a tertiary institution, pursuing a training program in disaster management or undertaking research in a disaster management area.

Criteria

Persons applying for the award must:

(a) Have been accepted to pursue a course of study in a tertiary institution;

(b) Show evidence of good academic performance;

(c) Demonstrate financial need;

(d) Provide proof of registration for a disaster management course

Special consideration will be given to areas of research and study which are considered by the Committee to be of high priority to the development of disaster management policy and application.

Application forms can be obtained from The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Response Agency (CDERA), Building #1, Manor Lodge Complex, Lodge Hill, St. Michael or any branch of FirstCaribbean International Bank.

Applications should reach the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Response Agency (CDERA) by June 30, 2006.
