Caribbean-American Elected Official urges residents of her district to be Counted – Census 2010

LAUDERHILL It is important for every person residing in the United States of America to participate in the upcoming census. This is one of the most important civic duties we have. Cities of House District 94 have engaged residents by organizing unique activities aimed at stressing the importance of an accurate census data. This will require participation by all.

“I am proud to service on the Statewide Census Complete Count Committee and to work closely with Broward County Commissioner Ilene Lieberman, chair of the Broward County Census 2010 Complete Count Committee, as well as member of the Greater Caribbean American Cultural Coalition Census Committee. This collaboration has done a tremendous amount of good in mobilizing grassroots leadership around the effort, and will continue to do so in the critical days ahead as we continue to take the message to the people with great fervor. All of this helps in achieving greater participation for Census 2010 in District 94 and across Broward County”, said Representative Rogers.

Representative Rogers

Representative Rogers felt is was her responsibility to get her district engaged in the process so that it gets it fair share of federal funding for those projects that are so important to the community. In doing so, it was important to be the voice for ensuring the appropriate diversity was represented in state and federal government funding towards achieving a complete count, especially among the hard-to-count groups.

For the first time in the history of the census, the report from the census will be given to a president who understands the need for immigration reform and healthcare for all. As elected officials, we will use the information gathered to set policies that will affect your lives for the next 10 years. “An accurate and comprehensive portrait of the new and diverse America is up to each of you, and I encourage you to stand up and be counted,” said Rogers.

April 1st is Census Day. We will be partnering with the Greater Caribbean American Cultural Coalition in hosting various census activities leading up to that date. District 94 will closed its month long activities with the Faith-based weekend activities March 19-21; Celebrity Greeters event on Sunday March 27th, where volunteers from the community will assist as greeters at some of our local businesses handing out census literature and explaining the importance of the census and encouraging residents to fill out and return the census form. Later that evening we will be at the Lauderhill Sports Complex. Rogers is calling on her colleagues, business owners, and community leaders to take the effort on the road because the census means so much to the community.

Census 2010 is here. Be Counted, it is only 10 questions and takes only 10 minutes to complete the form. The information gathered will affect our lives as we set policies for the next 10 years. – It’s in Our Hands!
