Caribbean-American D’Limers Group Prepares to Bring Caribbean Flavor to Breast Cancer Awareness

MIAMI – Celebrating their 8th year of participation, a collaboration of Caribbean businesses and organizations, known as D’ Limers, will be among the thousands for the Annual Komen Race for the Cure taking place on Saturday, October 15, at Bayfront Park, in Downtown Miami as the largest Caribbean themed participating group.

In an effort to raise awareness for early detection within Caribbean-American community, the D’ Limers team will incorporate the flavor of Caribbean music, food, and culture in hosting of the team’s participation. After the race and walk, participants will enjoy a full Caribbean breakfast and the best of Caribbean music at the host tent.

This year, the Susan G. Komen Foundation will celebrate its 26th anniversary of the Race for the Cure, the largest series of 5K runs/fitness walks in the world, with well over one million participants since 2005. The Komen Race for the Cure Series raises significant funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer, celebrates breast cancer survivorship, and honors those who have lost their battle with the disease.

The D’ LImers team will include a number of Caribbean-owned businesses and supportive organizations, such as Bilmor Advertising with Specialties, delancyhill, P.A., Circle of One Marketing, Foxx Creations Entertainment, Social Esquire, Invizio, Jewel Miami’s OASIS Cooler Fete, Six Axis Entertainment, South Florida Caribbean News (SFLCN.com), Tammy Lynn’s Aromatherapy, Tropical Smoothie at Deerwood Center, Visionz Marketing, Miss Miami Broward Carnival Pageant, Hayden’s Saturday Night Mas, Florida Caribbean Students Association (FCSA) and FCSA Alumni, Consulates of Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago, Events Unlimited, We’re Having A Party, Rhythms of Africa and Caribbean Today among others.

“Each year, we raise the volume within our disproportionately impacted Caribbean and African-American communities. We are making an impact – one woman and family at a time,” stated Marlon Hill, partner with delancyhill, P.A. and husband to breast cancer survivor, Carla Hill.

“Our company is proud to participate in this important effort to the health and quality of life of our community,” stated Irvine Headley, owner of Bilmor with Advertising Specialties.

Other community organizations or businesses are welcome to participate and join the team. All participating women are encouraged to retain and wear their mas headpieces from Miami Carnival 2011 or from other Carnivals on the day of the Walk.

“This year, our mas band, D’ Wassi Ones, will be including a section dedicated to breast cancer awareness in the annual Miami Broward One Carnival. This issue is near and dear to my heart and many of the women in my family. We look forward to bring the energy of our culture for such a good cause,” noted Giselle Blanche, bandleader, D’ Wassi Ones.
