PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad – Caribbean Airlines new CEO, Mr. Philip Saunders was appointed earlier this month and will be starting his new role on October 1st, 2007. He will replace Mr. Peter Davies who will continue to be involved with Caribbean Airlines, acting as Strategic Advisor to the Board.
Since the launch of the Task Force in the summer of 2005, under the Chairmanship of Mr. Arthur Lok Jack, the airline industry of Trinidad & Tobago has undergone substantial change. The Task Force was established to meet specific challenges in building a sustainable industry, and this resulted in the closure of BWIA and the launch of Caribbean Airlines. After 7 months of operation, under the stewardship of Mr. Davies, Caribbean Airlines has established a reputable position in the market following a successful summer period with record numbers of passengers.
“The airline has established a strong footprint in the market place and has performed well against additional competition” says Mr. Arthur Lok Jack, Caribbean Airlines’ Chairman. Given this strong position, Caribbean Airlines is now able to begin implementing the next phase of its development. This will require careful planning as the Company intends to grow and operate to more destinations with additional aircraft. It is also developing valuable relationships with other carriers to ensure worldwide coverage benefiting the people of the Caribbean.
Mr. Philip Saunders is well equipped to lead Caribbean Airlines’ growth in this next phase. He served as Vice President Commercial at Star Alliance, the world’s largest airline alliance, and in senior management positions at British Airways, as well as providing the commercial direction to achieve the turnarounds at SN Brussels Airlines in Belgium and Deutsche BA in Germany.
Caribbean Airlines is aiming to benefit from the growth in business and leisure travel and will fulfill the wishes of the people in providing the most comprehensive and cost effective airline operation in the region.
