Kingston, Jamaica – The Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO) has been appointed as the Canadian Executive Service Organizations’ (CESO) country representative for the period October 2014 to March 2015. Representatives from CESO will be conducting a mission to Jamaica during November 17- 20, 2014 to evaluate the progress of SMEs that have received assistance and to meet with JAMPRO to assess suitable development projects.

CESO is one of Canada’s leading development organisations, having completed over 46,000 projects in approximately 120 countries since its CESOlogo_EN_red (3)inception.  The organisation provides mentoring and technical expertise through an assigned Volunteer Advisor to each project. CESO has worked with JAMPRO on various projects in the past and has completed several Caribbean assignments through contracts with the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).

As country representative, JAMPRO will support CESO’s activities by monitoring the application process for development projects and managing relationships with clients and Volunteer Advisors. JAMPRO will also implement short-term organisational improvement projects as part of CESO’s government capacity building programme to improve the agency’s quality of support to local SMEs.

JAMPRO welcomes this opportunity to partner with CESO and is looking forward to the upcoming evaluation mission that will take place next week. JAMPRO’s Vice-President of Corporate Development & Competitiveness, Shullette Cox said, “As Jamaica makes great strides towards economic sustainability, it is critical that our MSMEs receive technical direction and mentoring to get them ready for exporting goods and services. JAMPRO will be using this opportunity to provide help for local businesses and development projects that are in need of assistance. We are confident that we will be able to fulfill CESO and JAMPRO’s missions through this partnership and we are pleased to accept this responsibility.”
JAMPRO’s work with CESO will provide another avenue for the agency to deliver much-needed support to Jamaican SMEs.  The agency will continue its efforts with local and international partners to create programmes targeted at giving a boost to various sectors in the economy.
