A weekend of pure adrenalin and fun through Kingston’s most iconic attractions
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Jamaica Hotel & Tourist Association – Kingston Chapter presents The Kingston City Run, a weekend of pure adrenalin and fun, March 8 – 11, 2013. .
The Kingston City Run, plans to utilize the scenic, cultural and mystical assets of Kingston. The race route will be configured to highlight the best of Kingston and allow spectators ample opportunities to line up and cheer on the runners.
The proposed route has been crafted to highlight some of Kingston’s most iconic attractions including Emancipation Park, Devon House, Hope Botanical Gardens, Bob Marley Museum, Vale Royal, Jamaica House and Kings House to name a few. The route will start at picturesque Emancipation Park located on Knutsford Boulevard.
The race route will take athletes not only pass but through some of these attractions like the famous Devon House. The Devon House Mansion is truly magnificent and is noted in the recently published National Geographic: Food Journeys of a Lifetime: 500 Extraordinary Places to Eat Around the Globe as the fourth-best place in the world to eat ice cream. Unique to the race will also be the first ever “Mascot” run where both individual and corporate mascots can run for fun.
An exciting weekend package is being offered by Kingston area hotels including accommodations, airport transfers, entrance to the Welcome Night Carnival Party hosted by Bacchanal Jamaica on Friday, entrance to the Health Fair & Expo on Saturday hosted at the Wyndham Kingston (inclusive if pre-race warm up training poolside with JamFit,), race registration and entrance to the After party hosted at The Jamaica Pegasus Hotel.
Accommodation packages are available from The Courtleigh Hotel & Suites, The Altamont Court Hotel, The Wyndham Kingston, The Jamaica Pegasus, The Spanish Court Hotel, The Knutsford Court Hotel and Hotel Four Seasons. Optional day tours to Port Antonio and Ocho Rios as well as other tours of Kingston and surrounding areas are also on offer.
Visitors are encouraged to take in Kingston’s night life at popular sports bars such as Usain Bolts “Tracks and Records” and Cuddyz.
The event also has a charitable purpose with funds being raised to provide sustainable support to the Homeless through four main charities, Open Arm Drop-in Shelter, Marie Atkins Night Shelter, Food for the Poor and The Missionaries of the Poor.
“The inaugural Kingston City run is slated to be an annual event, marrying Kingston’s natural assets as the hub of where Jamaica’s top athletes work, train and live. Kingston has long been positioned as the sports, entertainment and cultural capital of the Caribbean and this Kingston City run will serve to highlight this in a unique way,” said Nicola Madden-Greig, Area Chairman of The Jamaica Hotel & Tourist Association – Kingston Chapter.
The weekend promises a memorable showcase of all that Kingston has to offer with local celebrities joining professional and amateur athletes to run the city.
Several organizations have come of board to support this great addition to the Kingston events calendar including The Jamaica Tourist Board, Norman Manley International Airport, Club Kingston and the Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association.
