Calling All Carnival Revelers, Let's Get Carnival Fit & Ready

21-day VIRTUAL JUMP-UP Fitness Challenge Launched

[SOUTH FLORIDA] – After partnering and intensive planning with The WellFit Club’s Kamila McDonald and Miami-Broward’s Carnival Director, Asa Sealy, the Caribbean Diaspora Healthy Nutrition Outreach Project (CDHNOP) announces the launch of their 21-day VIRTUAL JUMP-UP Fitness Challenge. A VIRTUAL HEALTH MAKEOVER FITNESS plan designed to get the diaspora moving again and ready physically and mentally for Carnival 2021.

It’s been 18 months of eating in, sleeping in, and overindulging in a barrage of movies, zoom meetings and other non-physical activities. As a result, this has some in the diaspora seeing red with those additional COVID 19 pounds. Meanwhile wondering how to get rid of them.

Under the direction of Dr. Farzanna Haffizulla, the Trinidadian-born Principal Investigator and Chair for the Department of Internal Medicine at NSU’s Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine, the CDHNOP research team has uncovered 5 Caribbean nations within the diaspora whose nationals have a higher predisposition to succumbing to preventable diseases. Diseases like, diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, and in some cases cancer.

These nations are Cuba, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago. Dr Haffizulla has created a health outreach program where the diaspora has access to choices and information that leads to a better way of living. Especially without compromising the rich Caribbean traditions the diaspora continues to pass down from generation to generation.
