Businesses Learn About Disaster Readiness; Miami-Dade’s Business Recovery Program Highlighted

MIAMI – Miami-Dade County’s Emergency Management Director Curtis Sommerhoff (pictured at center) joined a panel of emergency preparedness experts to discuss the importance of business preparedness with business and industry professionals at the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce’s Business Continuity and Emergency Preparedness event on Thursday, June 16, 2011, at the Hilton Miami Downtown.

Sommerhoff discussed Miami-Dade’s “whole community” approach to disaster preparedness and the importance of engaging residents, businesses, non-profits and others to create a more disaster-resilient community.

Highlighted was Miami-Dade’s Business Recovery Program, which is designed to enhance business-to-government and business-to-business communication. Members are provided real-time information on local disaster preparedness, response and recovery activities, and a network to share equipment, personnel and facilities in the event of a disaster. The program also allows government to more easily understand the unique challenges businesses face, and make decisions based on feedback from business and industry.
