PHILADELPHIA — Former Jamaican Prime Minister Bruce Golding will headline Team Jamaica Bickle’s Independence Fundraising Gala on Saturday, Aug. 1, at the Hilton Philadelphia City Avenue. The organization marks Jamaica’s 64th anniversary of independence and raises funds to support Caribbean student-athletes.

Golding, who served as prime minister of Jamaica, will deliver the keynote address and serve as guest of honor. Emmy Award-winning journalist Janelle Burrell, co-anchor of CBS News Philadelphia, will host the event.

The gala will bring together community leaders, elected officials, business leaders, supporters and members of the Caribbean diaspora for an evening of culture, recognition and philanthropy.

2026 Honorees

This year’s honorees are Jannie L. Blackwell, Dr. Eric Nzeribe, Stanley L. Slaughter, Dr. Kimisha Simpson and Tammy Mack.

Proceeds will support Team Jamaica Bickle’s work providing hospitality and assistance to Jamaican and other Caribbean athletes competing at the Penn Relays. In addition, proceeds will help programs focused on education, youth development and community engagement.

Celebrating Jamaica’s Independence and Student Athletes

Team Jamaica Bickle co-founder Blane Stoddart said the gala offers supporters a chance to celebrate Jamaica’s independence. At the same time, the event allows investing in the next generation of athletes.
