The Black Heritage Planning Committee, a subcommittee of Miami-Dade County’s Black Affairs Advisory Board is currently seeking nominations for its 2005 Pillars Awards, scheduled to be presented during its annual awards banquet in September.
“Once again we look to recognize residents who are often the “unsung heroes or ‘she-roes’ in our community,” said D. J. Fabien, a member of the Black Affairs Advisory Board and chair of the Black Heritage Planning Committee. Deadline for submissions is June 10, 2005.
Nominations are being accepted in the following categories: Public Service; Religion; Medicine; Media; the Arts; Athletics; Education and Business. The Miami-Dade County Black Pillars Award recognizes outstanding citizens who have demonstrated results in:
Providing community services for over five (5) years
Promoting community development
Promoting economic/business development in the community
Instilling correct values, standards, personal character and biblical morals throughout the community
Providing health care to low to moderate income individuals
Providing critical, mass communications that is beneficial to the community-at-large
Displays a commitment to promoting black heritage through the arts
Coaching, mentoring, training, and team-building and providing required disciplines to the youth in the community
Promoting and providing high quality education to all individuals
