Barbadian independent film company, Step By Step Productions set to release new film, Vigilante-The Crossing

BRIDGETOWN, BARBADOS – “Step By Step Productions ” makers of the successful “Hush” Film Series and the Barbados family box office hit “Chrissy”  proudly presents Vigilante-The Crossing, starring Kirk Brown, Malissa Alanna and Alison Sealy Smith and a guest performance from national calypso icon Stedson Wiltshire (Red Plastic Bag) is sure to be a hit in Barbados, the Caribbean and the rest of the world.

BOB-MARLEY- “I only have one thing I really like to see happen. I’d like to see mankind live together – black, white, Chinese, everyone – that’s all.”

Another Caribbean voice has joined the historical icons, Bob Marley and Marcus Garvey, in their global mission for racial equality. It is the latest Caribbean movie, Vigilante-The Crossing released by the award winning independent film production company Step by Step Production.

Vigilante-The Crossing explores the racial and social barriers in the Caribbean and its direct relationship to the increase in crime and violence in the Region.

This drama/action film, looks at race relations from a very new and fresh perspective. The film is set in Barbados, a Caribbean island, which although has experienced significant progress in the area of race relations, is still grappling with some of the lingering stain of slavery. Before the importation of Black slaves to the island, White Barbadians were in the majority.  Since the Independence of Barbados from Britain in 1966, most white Barbadians left for the United Kingdom and most of the political power shifted to the Black majority. However Whites still retain significant economic influence, with many businesses on the island owned by White Barbadians. This has spurred many discussions and has caused  some level of concern in the Black majority population.

It is against this backdrop that Vigilante-The Crossing skilfully paints a very gripping story of courage, race reconciliation and forgiveness which we definitely believe will permanently hang from the walls of history as it seeks to promote the idea that there is only one RACE- The Human race.

Vigilante-The Crossing

Vigilante-The Crossing very honestly tells the story of a young black ex-convict  Dexter Gooding (Kirk Brown) who is deported from the US and returns to his homeland, Barbados, to find his beloved community Bakers Village engulfed in crime. Armed with guilt of past crimes and a genuine passion for his birthplace, Dexter takes on the mission of Vigilante and in true Robin Hood style, he mercilessly seeks to eradicate Bakers Village of all criminal elements. It’s on this very ruthless path, he meets Amy (Malissa Alanna), a white Barbadian woman, who is on a similar mission and their worlds collide. Black & white, rich and poor, upper and lower class, and as the their paths cross…the historical cap of racial, class and social prejudice, violently erupts and suddenly threatens the mission. Love, hate, passion, guilt and prejudice all meet head on and Dexter & his beloved Bakers Village are now at a Crossroad.

Vigilante- The Crossing’s release is well timed and will bring a message of understanding between different people groups, which is very relevant in light of the recent race riots and protests staged in the USA, Canada and Great Britain. Will we continue to judge each other based on the the amount of pigment in our skin? This is the question that Vigilante-The Crossing asks as it encourages us all towards understanding.

“When two friends understand each other totally, the words are soft and strong like an orchid’s perfume.”  Martin Luther King Jr
