Bank of Antigua taken over

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – The St. Kitts-based Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) says a consortium of indigenous bank in the English-speaking Caribbean has been formed to carry on the operations of the Bank of Antigua.

The ECCB said representatives from the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB), the Government of Antigua and Barbuda; the Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines; Antigua Commercial Bank Ltd; St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank Ltd; Eastern Caribbean Financial Holdings Company Ltd; National Commercial Bank (SVG) Ltd and the National Bank of Dominica Ltd met over the weekend at the ECCB Headquarters.

“The parties came to a successful conclusion on the formation of an entity to carry on the operations of the Bank of Antigua Ltd. This will come into effect on Monday 23 February 2009,” the statement said Monday.

It said that the ECCB together with all relevant parties held a press conference at the Conference Room, Bank of Antigua Ltd, Coolidge, St John’s, Antigua at 2.00 pm on Monday, February 23, 2009.
