Bahamas To Host 1st English Caribbean Men’s Softball Championship Set

softball (3)NASSAU, Bahamas – The Bahamas will again host a championship for the English Caribbean Amateur Softball Confederation (ECASC) with the 1st English Caribbean Amateur Softball Confederation Men’s Championship to be played in Nassau, March 25-29, 2015.  In 2013, the Bahamas hosted the ECASC Women’s Championship in Freeport, which was won by Aruba.

            Seven countries from the region are expected to participate namely, Aruba, Belize, The British Virgin Islands, Jamaica, the Cayman Islands, the Turks & Caicos Islands, and the host Bahamas.

            The announcement was made by the President of ECASC, Burket Dorsette, who also confirmed the  IIIrd  General Assembly of ECASC will be held in Nassau during this time.  In attendance will be the President of the International Softball Federation, Dale McMann, and the President of the Confederation of Pan American Softball Associations (CONPASA), Tommy Velázquez, who will also represent the Confederation of Central American and Caribbean Associations of Softball, (CONCACAS).  Mr. Velázquez, during his visit, has scheduled meeting for all delegations to address the future of softball in the English Region.

The President of Softball Canada, Kevin Quinn, will also attend to formalize pitching, coaching, and development seminars for countries in the English Caribbean Region.

On this occasion two members of the Bahamas Softball Federation, Oria Woods and Rommel Knowles, will be inducted into the International Softball Federation’s Hall-of-Fame as a player and an Administrator respectively.  Doing the honours will be the ISF President, Mr. Dale McMann during a Welcome Reception at Government House Under the Patronage of he Governor  General of The Commonwealth of The Bahamas, Marguerite, Lady Pindling.

 “The ECASC is honoured to have these distinguished presidents visit with us as it will provide greater opportunities for our members in the English Region to establish stronger ties and formalize our programme”, said Dorsett.

            The Assembly will be held prior to the start of the Tournament, March 25, and play will commence that evening and end on Sunday March 29..

            The ECASC pleased to enjoy the support of the Ministries of Tourism and Sport for this championship and appeal to the business community for their support to make this event a success.

            Member bodies of the ECASC are Aruba, The Bahamas, Belize, British Virgin Islands, U.S Virgin Islands, Jamaica, Curacao, the Cayman Islands, and the Turks & Caicos Islands.  Memberships are pending from Bermuda, St. Marten, and Bonaire.
