Bahamas Minister of Foreign Affairs to attend NAM

NASSAU, Bahamas – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs for The Bahamas the Hon. Brent Symonette will lead a delegation to the Ministerial Meeting of the Coordinating Bureau of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) to be held in Havana, Cuba from April 27 to 30, 2009.

The Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement is held every three years, during which leaders discuss political, economic and social issues affecting member countries.

The Non-Aligned Movement is a Movement of members representing the interests and priorities of developing countries. The Movement has its origin in the Asia-Africa Conference held in Bandung, Indonesia in 1955, which was convened to discuss common concerns and to develop joint policies in international relations.

The first Conference of Non-Aligned Heads of State, at which 25 countries were represented, was convened at Belgrade in September 1961.
