Antigua’s Romantic Rhythms Music Festival kicks off in Black Music Month

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – Antigua and Barbuda, award winning destination for Weddings and Honeymoons, will burst onto the entertainment scene as the epitome of romance, when The Romantic Rhythms Festival kicks off during the month of June 2008. Music aficionados will fall in love as the lyrical beauty engulfs the entire destination, spreading peace, love and unity to locals and visitors alike.

This International Music Festival will run from June 12th thru 15th, and will offer visitors an experience as they indulge all of their senses in the allure of Antigua and Barbuda. More than just a music festival… Romantic Rhythms will offer a unique opportunity to sample the cuisine, heritage, culture and attractions of these “Love Islands.”

Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Culture, and the Environment, the Hon. Harold Lovell states that, “this festival charts the new direction in which the Ministry seeks to go. It is our hope to fill the year with a calendar of exciting events which will exhibit our cultural product as well as all other aspects of our national life.”

“We are hoping to add to our product, this very innovative niche of festival tourism (which has exploded throughout the Caribbean) and our marketing department has already done extensive research to ensure that our tourism landscape will make such business conducive for us.” Minister Lovell adds.

To date two major objectives have been identified to be met by the introduction of such an addition to the annual calendar of events; the elevation of the destination’s profile on the Caribbean Entertainment Calendar, and the strengthening of our cultural identity thus broadening the appeal of the destination as the cultural center of the Eastern Caribbean.

In essence advantage can be taken of off season travel discounts by regional and international tourists who will be rewarded by a totally enriching musical experience.

Featuring an impressive slate of performers from across the globe, including our very own backyard of Caribbean and South American, and an impressive line-up of vocal and instrumental performances, this festival will romance throngs of ole school and modern day music enthusiasts at candlelit concerts and other intimate settings throughout the destination.

Two exotic concerts will be hosted at the scenic Sir Vivian Richards Stadium and a barefoot, shore side concert against sunset views at Russell’s, Fort James. A variety of special events in the form of mini concerts dubbed “The Rhythm mini concert series” will provide lunch-time, tea-time and sunset entertainment as pre and post festival entertainment.
