Antigua and Barbuda wins Gold Adrian Award

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua – The Antigua & Barbuda Ministry of Tourism and its public relations agency, Ypartnership, received a Gold Adrian Award last week in recognition of an extensive travel article featured in the Washington Post newspaper.

Presented by the Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International (HSMAI), the awards are renowned as the travel and hospitality industry’s most distinguished advertising, public relations and web marketing competition, often referred to as the “Oscars” of tourism publicity.

As recipients of this prestigious honor, Ypartnership and the Antigua and Barbuda Ministry of Tourism boast the creation and implementation of a highly successful travel and tourism public relations campaign. “Our strategy has been to introduce Antigua and Barbuda as an untouched Caribbean paradise to media and travelers in the United States,” explains Derede Samuel-Whitlock, Director of Tourism in the U.S. “It is an honor to be recognized for our efforts in enhancing tourism to the islands.”

Antigua’s Cocos resort is a focus of the story, along with the unique features of the Admiral’s Inn, Carlisle Bay Antigua, Curtain Bluff, and Siboney Beach Club. Written by Travel Staff Writer Cindy Loose, the article appeared on the front page of the Washington Post travel section, online edition, travel writer blog section, as well as in various other newspapers. These impressive results were just one of the factors to be judged upon. Other equally weighted elements included market objectives, creativity, and content.

The Gold Adrian Award was celebrated by the Ministry of Tourism at the 51st Anniversary Gala in New York City this January 28, 2008. Dean Fenton, Tourism Officer, attended on behalf of Antigua and Barbuda. Fenton was also accompanied by members of the Ypartnership team, including Peter Yesawich, Chairman and CEO, along with Chris Davidson, Executive Vice President of Client Services, and Barry Lott, Vice President / Group Account Director.
