Alpha Phi Alpha Youth Tutoring Program Produces Big Results

MIAMI – For over three years, the Brothers of the Iota Pi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated have operated a free tutoring program for elementary and middle school students at Coral Reef Montessori Academy Charter School.

During the school year, Brothers gather weekly to provide students with supplemental instruction in reading and mathematics in preparation for the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test. As a result of the chapter’s presence, 80% of the school’s lowest performing students’ demonstrated notable gains in both areas.

The school also earned a letter grade of “A” (an improvement from its past satisfactory mark) and was designated as a “High Performing Charter School” by the Florida Department of Education.
