Air Jamaica clears the air on resignation Of Chief Executive Officer Of Air Jamaica, Michael Conway

KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Chief Executive Officer of Air Jamaica, Michael Conway did resign yesterday, October 18, 2007.

It is important to understand that Mr. Conway’s contract with the airline specifically offered the option to resign his position if the Government of Jamaica, and therefore, the ownership of Air Jamaica changed within his contract period.

The government did change and Mr. Conway decided to exercise this option.

Air Jamaica also has a new board of directors which will meet next week for the first time. The new Chairman of the Board is Ms. Shirley Williams and for the time being she will be temporarily assuming a larger executive role until the new direction of the airline’s management is determined.

Ms. Williams is also meeting today (October 19) with delegates from Air Jamaica’s unions to ensure that accurate information is being disseminated to staff.

In the meantime, Air Jamaica continues to operate as scheduled and no disruptions to its schedule are anticipated.
