A rich assembly of Caribbean authors to appear at the Annual Miami Book Fair International

MIAMI – The 23rd Annual Miami Book Fair International is just a few weeks away.

Opening on Sunday, November 12 and running through Sunday, November 19, the Miami Book Fair is sure to please all South Floridians and visitors with a roster of authors unequaled by any book fair in the U.S. – all of them on the grounds of Miami Dade College’s Wolfson Campus, 300 NE 2nd Ave.

A rich assembly of Caribbean authors will also be at the Fair, including Elizabeth Nunez, Kamau Braithwaite, Rambai Espinet, Dorette Darby and Colin Channer.

Elizabeth Nunez

This fall, adults in South Florida will be reading One Book’s selected title, Prospero’s Daughter, a novel by Elizabeth Nunez that retells Shakespeare’s The Tempest and addresses questions of race, class, and power in twentieth century Trinidad.

INTERNATIONAL VILLAGE

On the evening of Thursday, November 16, the grand opening of the International Pavilions gets underway celebrating cultural diversity. The literature, fine art, music, and culinary traditions of Brazil, China, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Jamaica, Israel, and Spain, will be on display through Sunday, November 19.

For the first time in the history of the Fair, the World Art Gallery will showcase artwork by artists from the featured countries.

Dorette Darby

Jamaican cookbook writer, Dorette Darby will be showcasing her new book, Tropical Palate “Taste of Jamaica” at Booth #210, section B.

Darby has been preparing Jamaican dishes for her family and friends for many years. Through their referrals her cooking has extended to include catering for parties, weddings and other functions.

Most of the recipes include many varieties of our native fruits, food, vegetables and spices to create the most delectable dishes. I have been asked on many occasions to either open a restaurant or create a cookbook so that others too may enjoy. I hope these recipes will enhance your taste buds beyond your expectations.

“We are looking forward to another wonderful Book Fair,” says Alina Interián, Executive Director of the Florida Center for the Literary Arts. “Best-selling writers, respected scholars, prize-winners…we’ll have them all in our Congress of Authors. And of course Street Fair will be as vibrant as ever with the International Pavilions Village presenting Brazil featuring Salvador da Bahia, China featuring Qingdao, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Israel, and Spain, showcasing Madrid and the Canary Islands.

In addition, Children’s Alley will again dazzle young readers featuring all-time favorite characters Arthur and Curious George in addition to other literary activities. And, we’ll again have hundreds of booksellers and publishers who will line our streets. There’s literary fun for everyone!”

For more than two decades, Miami Book Fair International has presented the most influential writers in the Americas and beyond. It is the largest and finest literary event in the U.S., attracting hundreds of thousands of book lovers every year to Miami Dade College’s Wolfson Campus.

Over eight days each November, the fair presents a stellar schedule of readings, workshops, discussions and entertainment featuring prize-winning writers, up-and-coming literary talent and best-selling authors from around the globe who cover a wide range of topics, from controversial current events to poetry and popular fiction.
