UWI Alumni Association South Florida Coming of Age!

SOUTH FLORIDA – The University of the West Indies – UWI Alumni Association of South Florida is coming of age.

The organization is celebrating 21 years of giving from South Florida to the University of the West Indies (UWI) which has 4 campuses including in Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados and Open campuses in several Caribbean countries.

The UWI Alumni Association’s incoming president Dr. Carmen Nicholas 2016-2017 recently presented a plaque to outgoing President Dr. Rupert Rhodd at Florida Atlantic University in Davie.

UWI Alumni Association Upcoming Events

The 2016-2017 Agenda includes signature events such as participation in the South Florida Coalition of  Alumni Associations’ Walkathon on Saturday, Dec 3rd. 8AM at Central Broward Regional Park.

On December 9th join UWI Alumni Association for the Christmas Lyme/ Fundraiser/ Potluck.

Also planned for 2017 is an Evening with a Literary Giant.

The UWI South Florida Guild was founded in 1995 by Dr. Marcia Magnus and a group of committed alumni.

Over the years, the Guild’s name was changed to the UWI Alumni Association but the giving remained.

The Association has held panel discussions, symposiums, a book drive; fundraisers with Byron Lee, nostalgic camaraderie-producing social events, a fish fry, a car raffle, and banquets.  But it has not all been fun, the Association has contributed thousands of dollars and offered scholarships to needy but gifted UWI students.

Membership is open to all UWI alumni.
