Oshin Miller Awarded Tyrone McArthur Hill Memorial Scholarship At University Of Technology In Jamaica

MIAMI –  UTECH Jamaica student Oshin Miller, 20, of Top Hill District in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, has been awarded the inaugural Tyrone McArthur Hill Memorial Scholarship for the 2016-17 year to support her studies in civil engineering at the University of Technology.

Oshin, a member of a family of three, hails from a small farming community in south-western Jamaican parish of St. Elizabeth.   Oshin has endured the loss of her father and challenging economic conditions to achieve a remarkable academic standing.

In addition, she has also committed her time to uplifting her community in volunteering in the local health clinic and being an active member of a number of special interest clubs on the UTech campus.

With the fiscal facilitation of the University of Technology Alumni Association in South Florida, Oshin will receive a cash award to support her academic journey.

On the passing of Tyrone Hill in August, 2015, the Hill family in Miami, Florida established the Tyrone M. Hill Memorial Scholarship Fund to honor the life of Tyrone McArthur Hill, a past diligent construction/engineering student at the University of Technology (C.A.S.T.).   The annual scholarship is awarded to students who have overcome life’s obstacles, demonstrated academic excellence, and shows promise in the profession of construction or engineering.
