St. Lucia Government gets assistance to improve juvenile justice from US


ST. LUCIA - St. Lucia's Ministry of Home Affairs and National Security will partner with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through its office in Barbados and the office of the US Military Southern Command in presenting a one-day seminar on “Shared Experiences” from the juvenile justice program in Florida.

The event which is funded through the Florida National Guard’s State Partnership Program (SPP) will be held on March 17, 2009 and features presentations from the Florida Youth Challenge Academy; the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office; the Jacksonville Police Athletic League and the State Attorney’s Office in Jacksonville –Florida.

Saint Lucia is expected to be represented at this forum by representatives of law enforcement agencies and other critical stakeholders involved in the development and execution of youth crime prevention initiatives and programs.

It is expected that the combined USAID-Florida SPP-Southern Command team will make donations on behalf of the U.S. Southern Military Command through its Humanitarian Assistance Program to several youth-focused organizations namely CARE, Upton Gardens Girls Centre, Boys Training Centre and the junior Achievement Program. Items will include teaching, training, and sports equipment.
