Bermuda’s Premier receives message from President Obama
HAMILTON, Bermuda - Bermuda's Premier Dr. Ewart Brown has received correspondence from the White House and new President of the United States President Barack Obama.
President Obama wrote in response to the Premier’s letter of congratulations sent to the Office of the President-Elect on November 10th, 2008.
In the correspondence the President wrote: “I am confident that we can work together in a spirit of peace and friendship to build a more secure world during the next four years. I look forward to working with you in that effort and promoting good relations between Bermuda and the United States.”
The President’s correspondence came to the Cabinet Office through diplomatic channels by way of the U.S. Consul General’s Office in Devonshire.
The Premier shared the full content of the message from President Obama with Members of Parliament today in the House of Assembly.
In the November letter to the President Dr. Brown said: “The United States and Bermuda have mutually benefited from a 400-year partnership which includes tourism, insurance, healthcare and education. I look forward to working with your administration on strengthening those ties, particularly insurance, which plays a critical role in keeping homeowner insurance affordable for Americans living in the path of hurricanes in states like Louisiana, Texas and Florida.”
