Celebrate the Achievements of Jamaican Authors, Publisher in the U.S.
Orlando — As we celebrate the accomplishments of Jamaicans home and abroad, let’s seize the opportunity to recognize two Kingston natives who are making a difference through the written word.
Suzette Farquharson-Morgan, author of Living Testimonies, and Lynn Gayle, author of Dreams and Visions: A Novel, stepped out on faith to not only write their stories but to also inspire others along life’s journey.
Their books, which are available in Jamaica, were recently featured on LOVE 101 FM’s Bookwise radio show with Nadine Blair and Colleen Beckles.
Ms. Morgan, who spoke last October at Women’s Convocation 2011 in Portmore, Jamaica, on “The Importance of Giving,” self-published her collection of short stories about love, hope and faith in 2005.
Since then, her company, FarMor Publishing, a division of FarMor Group, Inc. in Orlando, has released nine inspirational books, including a poetry collection by Trinidadian native PJ Questel, who currently resides in London.
Ms. Gayle’s 184-page novel, which chronicles the life of Alexander Warren (a dressmaker from Jamaica whose dreams from an early age prepared her for things to come), continues to receive rave reviews.
“It is an excellent book!” says Barbara Rowe, supervisor of Body & Soul in Mandeville, Jamaica. “Once I started reading this book, I could not put it down. A very good story,” says Jamaican native Merle Dennis, owner of Gem Catering in Orlando.
“Ms. Lynn Gayle is brave to put her story in black and white for all to read, but I thank her for doing so,” writes Samantha Penny, a USF graduate who purchased the novel during a book signing at Caribbean Delites Island Grill in Tampa, FL.
