Nominations open for Jamaica's Prime Minister’s Medal of Appreciation for Service to Jamaica


KINGSTON, Jamaica - Nominations are now open for the 2012 Prime Minister’s Medal of Appreciation for Service to Jamaica.
 
Making the announcement, Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller said, “In this 50th year of our political independence it is important that we celebrate the people who have helped to build our country, many of whom are unsung heroes in their communities, here and abroad.”
 
“Within each community are persons who, through selfless service, have been a force for upliftment and good, and I invite Jamaicans to help identify such persons so they can be given the recognition they deserve,” Mrs Simpson Miller said.
 
For this year, the awards will highlight contribution in the fields of innovation, creativity, community involvement and outstanding service and made based on the significance of the contribution to the economic, social, cultural or political development of Jamaica. Nominations are open to organisations and to individuals of Jamaican nationality, including those in the Diaspora.
 
Nomination forms are available online at www.opm.gov.jm and can be submitted electronically along with the relevant supporting documentation underscoring the work and contribution of the nominee.  Forms can also be had through the Chancery of the Orders of the Societies of Honour at Jamaica House, 1 Devon Road. The Prime Minister’s Medal of Appreciation was introduced in 1987 as a part of the nation’s celebrations of the country’s 25th anniversary of political independence.
 
Nominations close on June 29, 2012.
