South Florida PR Firm Signs Marriott Port-au-Prince, Haiti As A Client

FORT LAUDERDALESBPR Corp., a South Florida-based public relations agency specializing in travel and lifestyle communications, has signed the Marriott Port-au-Prince, Haiti to its client roster.

SBPR will provide publicity and media relations services, as well as social media consultation in support of the hotel’s marketing initiatives targeting both business and leisure travel markets.

The preeminent symbol of tourism’s lead role in fostering sustainable economic development in Haiti, the 175-room Marriott Port-au-Prince opened in February 2015 with a mandate to not only create significant local employment opportunities, but also to establish direct linkages with local suppliers across multiple areas of hotel operations.

Soaps and bath products, coffee, flower arrangements, seafood, fruits, and produce are all sourced locally.

The hotel’s art collection, curated by Philippe Dodard, a renowned Haitian artisan whose work inspired Donna Karan’s Spring 2012 collection, features the works of 22 different local artists.

Sustainability also applies to the power supply at the Marriott Port-au-Prince, with more than 60% of the hotel’s hot water demands supplied by rooftop thermo solar panels.

A collaboration between Marriott International, Clinton Global Initiatives and leading global communications provider, Digicel Group, the Marriott Port-au-Prince was constructed at a cost of US$45 million and employs a workforce of 162 Haitian citizens.
