Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago Honored In Miami

MIAMI – The Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar SC, Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, was honoured on Monday night (September 28) at a T&T Republic Day dinner hosted by the Consul General in Miami, Dr Anil Ramnanan.

In her address to over 400 nationals, PM Persad-Bissessar spoke of the improvements in health care and the education system in Trinidad. She also called on the business community in South Miami to conduct more trade with Trinidad and Tobago.

Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar encouraged T&T nationals living in Miami, to return to Trinidad and Tobago to see for themselves, the development projects and the improvement in infrastructure since the People’s Partnership Government took office in 2010.

She also spoke of the tremendous support she received from nationals in Florida prior to her attaining power in May 2010. Attending the event were Broward County Commissioner, Dale Holness, the Mighty Sparrow, Slinger Francisco, and US State Representative, Hazel Rogers.

On Tuesday morning, PM Persad-Bissessar met with Commissioner Holness and the T&T Consul General to discuss greater trade facilitation as Trinidad and Tobago is ranked 27th in terms of trade with South Florida.

PM Persad-Bissessar is expected to end her 10-day visit to New York and Miami on Wednesday.

The Prime Minister spent seven days in New York during which she addressed the United Nations General Assembly; witnessed the ratification of the Arms Trade Treaty; hoisted the Trinidad and Tobago flag on Wall Street on Republic Day; visited the diaspora in Brooklyn; addressed world leaders on Climate Change; attended a cocktail reception hosted by the Consul General in Manhattan,  and was the guest of honour at a dinner in Queens in celebration of the 38th anniversary of T&T being a Republic.
