Photographer/author of new book “Creole World” to speak at Books & Books

creoleworldcoverMIAMI – With its own rich Creole heritage, the Miami area shares many of the same elements found in renowned author and photographer Richard Sexton’s new exhibition and book “Creole World: Photographs of New Orleans and the Latin Caribbean Sphere” (The Historic New Orleans Collection 2014).

Sexton’s book explores the architectural and cultural connections between New Orleans and the Latin Caribbean through 200 stunning color images and essays. Sexton will be discussing these points at Books & Books in Coral Gables (265 Aragon Ave.) on Saturday, Aug. 23, beginning at 7 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

Those not able to attend the presentation can watch the event online and may order “Creole World” during the streaming and have it signed by Sexton by calling any of the Books and Books stores, which will then ship the book free of charge.

Over the course of 38 years, Sexton traveled across Latin America—from Haiti, Colombia, Argentina, Cuba and Ecuador back home to New Orleans—capturing the similarities among these culturally rich locales. His years of observation and documentation led to the exhibition of more than 50 color images now on view at The Historic New Orleans Collection and the companion book of the same name.
