A One-of-a-Kind Christmas Celebration in Montserrat
The Caribbean’s Emerald Isle Celebrates the Holidays with an Exuberant Month-Long Festival
BRADES, Montserrat – Music, creativity and talent come alive during Montserrat’s Festival, an annual carnival taking place Dec. 23, 2016 – Jan. 2, 2017.
The island’s biggest party of the year, Festival brings together visitors and locals alike in celebration of Christmas, with events such as a Miss Festival Queen Pageant, a Calypso King Competition, a Musical Extravaganza and vibrant costumed masqueraders parading in the streets.
One of the island’s most-anticipated events of the year, Festival embodies the island’s rich Irish heritage and vibrant Caribbean culture with a wide selection of colorful and energetic events for everyone to enjoy and partake in.
This year, Festival’s key events include:
- Dec. 23 – Opening of Montserrat’s Festival and Calypso Semi-Finals
- Dec. 25 – Carol Singing
- Dec. 26 – Jump Up
- Dec. 27 – St. John’s Day Celebration
- Dec. 28 – Miss Festival Queen Pageant
- Dec. 30 – Calypso Finals
- Dec. 31 – Festival Day
- Jan. 2, 2017 – Parade and Closing of Festival
Festival will culminate with the New Year’s Day parade of troupes consisting of vibrantly costumed revelers that perform traditional songs and dances as celebration-goers welcome a new year.
